The Fitzwilliam Museum is reinventing itself. As the principal museum of the University of Cambridge and one of the largest cultural venues in the region, the Fitzwilliam aims to be a crucial bridge between the University, the city and the rest of the world, with an international reputation for extraordinary research, world class exhibitions, sector-leading public engagement and over half a million objects and works of art spanning centuries and cultures. Today, the Fitzwilliam is one of the world's leading university museums, committed to collaborative, inclusive and innovative practice, acting as a bridge between the University and its communities. With over 200 staff and 100 volunteers, the Fitzwilliam is the lead partner in the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) consortium, which brings together all eight University of Cambridge museums and the Botanic Garden.

Role description

The Learning Associate: Families takes a lead on a vital strand of programme activity for a priority audience for the Museum, families, and contributes to unlocking the Fitzwilliam Museum's collections, and the research activities which underpin them, for a larger and more diverse range of people. The family offer at the Fitzwilliam has been recognised by the Kids in Museums Family Friendly Museum Awards, and was shortlisted for the best Accessible Museum award in 2021. We are looking for someone to build on these strengths and continue to develop the programme and family welcome, in the context of the wider transformation of the Museum. The role will ensure that planned programme outcomes are delivered on time and on budget, that programme impacts are measured and evidenced and that evaluation and consultation feed into continuous improvement to ensure an offer that is high quality and relevant to local need. Effective partnership working will play a crucial part in shaping our evolving offer. In practice, the role holder will combine development and direct delivery of programme activity with co-ordinating, influencing, inspiring and galvanising colleagues and volunteers to contribute to programme delivery to achieve agreed outcomes for audiences.
