The Fitzwilliam Museum is reinventing itself. The Fitzwilliam workforce comprises approximately 200 members of staff and over 100 volunteers. The Fitzwilliam is the lead for the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) partnership, bring together all eight museums and the Botanic Garden. In line with the Fitzwilliam Museum Mission adopted in December 2019, the Museum is committed to developing its work and reputation as a great public asset and an extraordinary scholarly resource within the University, the region and the world. Through engaging powerfully with as wide a public as possible, producing and presenting interdisciplinary research of the highest quality around its collections, the Museum is entering a new era.
We have just welcomed a new Directorate team of Deputy Directors and will be going through a period of transformational change in 2021, making this an exciting and busy time to be joining the Museum.
The Content Producer: Digital Humanities will provide human resources to power the digital outputs of two research projects, which will lead to an innovative and sector-leading experience: Unlocking the English Portrait Miniature: The Materiality of Isaac Oliver's Oeuvre and Manuscript Futures, a new initiative marking the 10th anniversary of the MINIARE research project.
The role holder will work with the Fitzwilliam Museum's Digital and IT team and with members of the Curatorial, Conservation and Scientific Research teams, to develop content strategy, produce project documentation and project-manage an external contracted agency who will be producing the final digital resource for the Isaac Oliver project.
They will synthesise documentary and object-based evidence to produce a multi-faceted end product which has the scope for cutting edge digital outputs that would be considered for submission to future rounds of the Research Excellence Framework and contribute to one of the strands of the Fitzwilliam Museum's mission - namely to produce immersive digital experiences.
They will have the opportunity to co-ordinate citizen science projects and participate in other digital initiatives that the departments are engaged in.
The candidate will be immersed in open source technologies (JavaScript, PHP, Python, R, Git) and supported to learn the skills for the role via colleague support, university courses and directed online learning.
There are no direct line management responsibilities attached to this role.
Location: working from home/telework, with occasional presence required on site at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 9 months in the first instance.

The role is full-time, though consideration will be given to the role being undertaken on a part-time basis.
