UCM Programme Assistant (Fixed Term)
Passionate about history? Super-excited about science? Amazed by art? Want to get hands-on experience with a busy team working across nine incredible collections?
The University of Cambridge Museums are seeking a Programme Assistant to join our Partnerships Team.
This is a perfect opportunity for someone seeking to develop their skills in communications, public engagement and administration. You'll be supporting a team of specialists who work across the University's eight museums and Botanic Garden to support collaboration and partnership working and to open up the museums and Botanic Garden to as wide an audience as possible.
The eight University of Cambridge Museums and Botanic Garden (UCM) represent the UK's highest concentration of internationally-important collections outside London. With more than five million works of art, artefacts and specimens, the collections have supported nearly three hundred years of investigation into the world around us. Today, they bring together people from across the globe to explore the big questions: from the earliest forms of life to the future of our planet. We work together to deepen understanding of our world, inspire new thinking, and address local and global challenges.
The Programme Assistant will work with the whole UCM Partnerships team, but particularly closely with the Head of Partnerships, and in support of the work of the Opening Doors Project Coordinator (focused on volunteering, work experience, internships and staff development), Evaluation & Insight Coordinator and Communications Coordinator.
The work is extremely varied with no two days being quite the same. Your week could involve posting on social media, supporting with the delivery museum events, writing newsletters, diary management, representing the UCM at careers fairs, supporting work experience students, collating data and insights for our senior leaders, we could go on!
The ideal candidate will bring strong practical and demonstrable experience of office administration and supporting a busy team, a creative, flexible and people-centred approach, and a willingness to learn. You will be prepared to work on your own initiative and to support all members of the team if required. Close attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are essential along with effective organisational and time management abilities. You'll also have a good grasp of Microsoft Office (including Excel) and familiarity with (or willingness to learn) Wordpress and Drupal content management systems.
In return we offer an encouraging and supportive environment, an attractive pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and many employee benefits such as a shopping discounts scheme.
It is anticipated that in this role you will need you to be based mainly onsite (in the office or on the ground in the museums or Botanic Garden), however we are open to discussing all options and will support hybrid working where practically possible.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a security check.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2026 in the first instance.
