With the succession of King George V in 1910, current issues of medals had to be updated to bear the portrait of the new monarch, and the Naval Long Service Medal was no exception.
This example was awarded to Mechanic E. F. Walter, who served in the pre-Dreadnought battleship HMS Commonwealth. The award of the medal is not dated, but as Commonwealth was stricken in 1921, the medal must date from before then. Lester Watson acquired it at some point between then and 1928.
