Your group visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum

EFL Students/ Schools

All groups will need to be booked at least one week in advance through the Education and Bookings administrator, telephone 01223 332904 or email education@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk.

If you come to the museum without making a booking you may be refused entrance.

During Cambridgeshire school term we are unable to accept group visits during the morning. This is due to booked teaching sessions for Schools and Universities. However we do welcome group visits after 14:00.

The Museum welcomes over 8,000 ELF students per year, with our busy periods for group visits during the summer months. To be kept up to date with how we can support your visit, please sign up to our EFL mailing list by contacting the email address above.

Planning your visit

When booking your visit with the Education Department, you will be given a ticketed arrival time. If your group is over 30 people, you will be asked to divide your group so that two arrival times can be allocated for you.

Please make sure that students who are under the age of 16 are accompanied by an adult. We recommend an adult ratio of 1:10 students.

If you are a language school booking on behalf of an EFL group, please make sure that all visit confirmation is forwarded to the appropriate leader as they will need to present their booking confirmation on arrival.

Visiting the Museum

All groups are asked to arrive via the Museum’s Courtyard Entrance. A member of Museum staff will be there to greet you, and to advise on any bag and cloakroom storage. The group leaders will also be asked to sub-divide the group, leading smaller groups around the different galleries. The group leader will also be responsible for any storage keys, and will be made identifiable by wearing a lanyard, which will also be given to the group on arrival.

Learning Resources

Unfortunately the Museum cannot offer any taught sessions for EFL students, however we do have tailored learning resources available for download should you want to support in your visit.
