The manuscript has 29 quires. The structure, remarkably regular, reflects the meticulous planning of the manuscript from the start, and the close collaboration between scribes and artists. All but three quires consist of four bifolios (quaternions). The exceptions are the Calendar (quire 1), made of six bifolios as usual; quire 12, which completed the Hours of the Virgin and needed only three bifolios; and the final quire 29, whose three bifolios were sufficient to accommodate the final prayers.
