Isabella Stuart (1427-died after 1494), daughter of James I of Scotland, was the second wife of Francis I who succeeded to the Duchy of Brittany in August 1442. They were married in October 1442 and the manuscript was adapted as a wedding gift for Isabella. Her portrait was painted over that of the original owner on fol. 20r. Isabella’s arms, the Scottish lion rampant impaled with the ermine of Brittany, were added throughout the volume.
