"I was hugely impressed by the complexity of the patterns on the New Mexican ceramics that I first saw at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Just a few years after my time in Cambridge and after my first degree at Farnham, I took the opportunity to visit New Mexico and watched the women Pueblo potters building and burnishing their pots. The pots they made were different in appearance to those here, but it was fascinating to watch another group of female potters hand-building. They used a different approach to the female potters in Nigeria and Kenya, whom I had visited in 1974 and 1975."
