As the principal museum of the University of Cambridge and the largest cultural venue in the region, The Fitzwilliam Museum acts as a crucial bridge between the University, the City and the rest of the world, and has an international reputation for extraordinary research, world class exhibitions, award-winning public programmes and significant collections spanning many cultures and centuries. The Fitzwilliam Museum collection comprises 500,000 objects, displayed in galleries or housed in storage. The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is one of the world's leading centres for teaching and research in conservation and heritage science.
The Documentation Manager will coordinate catalogue data relating to the Fitzwilliam Museum's collection, historic and institutional archives, ensuring maintenance and development of the Collections Documentation System (Adlib/Axiell) and manage a team of specialists to improve collection information and images. The role-holder will also manage a Records & Archives Assistant, that will support an options appraisal around the Museum's future approach to historic and digital archives.
This activity will both catalyse research and support wider Mission aims. The post-holder will seek to enhance collaborations with collections documentation specialists and colleagues across the University and beyond. We are seeking someone who is a good communicator, with the ability to prioritise while maintaining an attention to detail. They will have experience of working in a collections documentation role within a museum, gallery or heritage organization with large and diverse collections, and have experience of different museum documentation systems.
