The Fitzwilliam Museum library comprises 450,000 titles and 1,250 periodicals, with a focus on art history, antiquities, numismatics, conservation and sales catalogues. Part of the library is housed at the Hamilton Kerr Institute for Conservation. It is used to support staff research and is accessible to researchers, students and readers from across the University and beyond.

The Library Manager manages these collections, including access for readers, ensuring the efficient administration, best practice and management of the library to support mission aims around research and public engagement. They will maintain and develop collaborations with Cambridge University Libraries, seeking integration of activities and services where appropriate.

The Library Manager will manage and develop access to the library for researchers, students and other readers, including ensuring reader services and invigilation, and respond to public enquiries. They will identify, catalogue and house new acquisitions in the framework of a collections development plan, ensuring no unnecessary duplication with other University Libraries, and the use of digital publications where appropriate.

The postholder will explore better integration with Cambridge University Libraries. They will ensure appropriate and sustainable storage of the collections, working closely with Conservation.

They will work closely with collections management, curatorial, conservation, health & safety and operations staff to ensure safety of collections and readers. They will ensure consistent and clear information, regulations and guidance around these areas of work, including website information relating to the library and archive.
