Books
Local interest in the New Zealand Wars has been continual since their end but there is now also a quantity of modern scholarly work with more detached perspectives. Some older works are however extremely valuable for their illustrations as well as providing examples of contemporary attitudes. Of particular value for this website, whether directly or by informing sources that we have used, have been:
- Benjamin Wells, A History of Taranaki (New Plymouth 1878)
- Stephenson Percy Smith, Maori Wars of the Nineteenth Century (Christchurch 1910), online at the New Zealand Electronic Text Centre
- James Cowan, The New Zealand Wars: a history of the Maori campaigns and the pioneering period (Wellington 1955), online at the New Zealand Electronic Text Centre
- Claudia Orange, The Treaty of Waitangi (Wellington 1987)
- Murray Moorhead, Tales of Old New Plymouth (New Plymouth 1990)
- Alan Ward, A Show of Justice (Auckland 1999)
Unpublished work
- Gail Lesuma, Antonio Rodriquez. Also known as Antonio Rodriquez de Sardinha. New Zealand Cross and New Zealand War Medal (2008)
