Nadine Langford

Nadine Langford joined the Fitzwilliam in December 2022. She is a Museum Interpretation Practitioner, focusing her work on telling engaging stories that are intellectually, emotionally, and physically accessible for all audiences. Her practice-based research work at the Fitzwilliam explores how to open up the collections through in-gallery interpretation so the Fitzwilliam can truly align with its mission statement to "touch people’s lives by engaging powerfully, thoughtfully and pleasurably with as wide a public as possible".

This means Nadine is working with colleagues on the commission of a piece of insight work that will help us understand our audience better. Most of her time is spent developing interpretation briefs for exhibitions and permanent galleries that ask searching questions about our audiences and how to explore the collections through their eyes. She is also part of the Connections through Collections group, working with a radical and engaged group of participants who are exploring, through the development of a co-curated exhibition, what the museum means to them and the people of Cambridge.

Nadine has a BA in Fine Art and Critical Theory from Goldsmiths’ College and an MA with distinction from UCL in Cultural Heritage/Museum studies. She worked for many years at the V&A developing varied and innovative interpretation in permanent collection galleries exhibitions. She is currently working on a joint paper about a sector-changing audio guide she developed while working as an Interpretation Manager at English Heritage just before she joined the Fitzwilliam.
