Luke Syson, the Director of Cambridge University’s Fitzwilliam Museum, is delighted to announce that the last, but no means the least of our new Deputy Directors joins us today. We welcome Ian Hardwick as our new Deputy Director for Operations.
Ian will work with the Director and Senior Managers to lead on reviewing several structures, working practices and procedures, including review of arrangements for Duty Management, Security, Facilities, HR, Finance and Administrative Support, and lead on the organisational change required to make these and other areas of work in the Museum more sustainable, effective and efficient.
Ian comes to us from the University’s Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) which he joined in 2013 as Head of Hall Operations and Estates’ Development, with the strategic and operational management of the 16th century, Grade 1 listed stately home, Madingley Hall. This operates as a teaching venue and well as a commercial training, conference, events venue and hotel.
Ian brings a business focus and wide-ranging experience as a service-led leader and manager in Higher Education, as well as in the hospitality and leisure sectors. During his seven years with the University of Cambridge, he has planned and executed an organisational change at ICE which has resulted in widened communication and allowed for greater ownership from individuals over delivery in their areas. He was also involved in a full strategic review of the academic provision and staffing structures at the Institute, involving the development of the Institute's new mission statement, value proposition and brand identity.
We are pleased to welcome Ian into The Fitzwilliam Museum family.
