Original manuscripts from the literary archives on display

Famous manuscripts of masterpieces by Thomas Hardy, Virginia Woolf, John Keats and others, show some of our greatest writers at work. For #ExploreArchivesWeek these literary treasures, very rarely able to be on display, will be shown in Gallery 3 from Tuesday 21 November to January 7.

Explore Your Archive is a campaign that showcases the best of archives in the UK and Ireland. The campaign is led by a wide range of partners, including The National Archives (UK) and the Archives and Records Association (UK & Ireland).

Jude the Obscure, the last completed novel by Thomas Hardy is illustrated here; it began as a magazine serial in December 1894 and was first published in book form in 1895.
