"At Cambridge School of Art, the foundation course was comprehensive and offered a wide range of art practice. In my second year, I tried to focus on Commercial Art and Advertising. That did not work for me and as I became disengaged, I got more interested in pottery, printmaking and jewellery. Zoë Ellison, the wonderful pottery teacher, encouraged me to think more seriously about opting for fine or applied arts. With her advice I put together a portfolio and applied to West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham, now University for the Creative Arts. It is therefore largely because of Zoë Ellison that I became a potter,"
