You may take photographs in the public galleries of the Museum for non-commercial, personal use only. If you would like to take images for commercial use, you must contact us for licensing and permits.

We ask that you do not use flash, protruding lenses, tripods or other specialist equipment, and take care not to inconvenience other visitors or put any of the works of art at risk.

Photography and video are not allowed in temporary or special exhibitions, or where an object’s label indicates a private loan.

Photography is not permitted in the shop, for commercial reasons.

Please note that many works in the Museum’s collection are subject to copyright and publication restrictions. In taking images during your visit, you take full responsibility for all copyright and other legal obligations relating to them.

If you are creating 3D models, we ask you to use photogrammetry only (structured light scanning can be used by permit) and you may be challenged by gallery staff as to your purpose – taking hundreds of images of the same object can worry our Visitor Services staff.

A selection of postcards of works from the collections is available in the Museum shop. You can also order reproduction prints of many works in the collection from our custom prints site.
