Formerly Senior Curator Medieval Money at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Dr Martin Allen's main area of research is the monetary history of medieval England, and his publications include Mints and Money in Medieval England (Cambridge University Press, 2012). He is currently working on a volume in the Fitzwilliam Museum's Medieval European Coinage series that is intended to be the definitive survey of research on the coinage of the British Isles between 1066 and 1279.
Martin also records medieval coin finds in the Fitzwilliam Museum's Corpus of Early Medieval Coin Finds (EMC), and he is actively engaged on research on coin finds as evidence of commerce and the money supply in medieval England. As an Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of History he is involved in undergraduate teaching, concerned with the use of money in medieval England.
