Anicet-Charles-Gabriel Lemonnier

Lemonnier was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1772 and became a successful painter of historical and mythological subjects. With the permission of the French government, he extended his stay in Italy until 1784. He became an Academician in 1789 and exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1785 to 1814. Following the French Revolution, he was appointed to various official positions to ensure the preservation of French national heritage, including member of the Committee on Monuments and of the Arts Commission of the Louvre and director of the Gobelins Tapestry Manufactory.
